SENTENCING REMARKS PILOT NOW LIVE

The government launched their pilot for free sentencing remarks for victim survivors of sexual offences.

This means that if your case got a guilty verdict, the government will supply you with the transcripts of the sentencing remarks free of charge.

The pilot is live until May 2025.

We fought for this pilot (and much more), so are really pleased some victim survivors are now able to read in their own time what was said in the courtroom.

For you to apply for your free transcript you must:

  • Be a victim of rape or a sexual offence

  • The sentencing hearing must have happened after March 2012

  • Know the name of the defendant or defendants in the case

  • Know the name of the court where the sentencing hearing was held

  • Know the date of the sentencing hearing

  • Have your name and contact details

Please note - The transcript can only be provided with the judge’s approval. Some parts may be redacted, for example if they include personal addresses or where reporting restrictions apply.
